Kentucky Derby Horse Track Results

2010 Kentucky Derby 136 Horse and Jockey Results

Super Saver and Jockey Calvin Borel take Kentucky Derby 136. Super Saver got a perfect trip under Calvin Borel, rating off a torrid early pace before squeezing through on the rail at the top of the stretch. The son of Maria's Mon opened up on the field and then easily held sway to win by approximately two lengths.

Super Saver's final time was 2:04.45 on a sloppy track. Calvin Borel deftly tucked Super Saver along the rail Saturday on a track turned into creamy peanut butter by heavy rain. Once again, he was in his favorite spot, getting a clear path all the way through the goo.

The jockey's magic touch on his home track gave trainer Todd Pletcher his first Derby victory after 24 failures with a 2½-length victory over Ice Box.

Borel's ride at his home track nearly duplicated the one he turned in last year aboard 50-1 shot Mine That Bird, except he and Super Saver went off at lower odds and were never in last place.

2009 Kentucky Derby 135 Horse and Jockey Results

The race was won by the 50-1 long shot Mine That Bird, ridden by jockey Calvin Borel with a time of 2:02:66 and paid $103.20. The horse is trained by Bennie ‘Chip’ Woolley Jr. and is owned by Mark Allen of Double Eagle Ranch in Roswell, New Mexico. The win was the second biggest upset in Kentucky Derby history.

The ‘Run for the Roses’ lush blanket of 554 roses was placed on the back of #8, Mind That Bird. Finishing second was Pioneer of the Nile, and taking third was Musket Man.

2008 Kentucky Derby 134 Horse and Jockey Results

Big Brown, overcoming the far outside post, rolled to a five-length victory Saturday in the 134th running of the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs. The three-year-old, unbeaten in four career starts, can now become the first Triple Crown winner since 1978.

Big Brown, the 2-1 favorite in the 20 horse field, becomes the first winner of the Run for the Roses to start from the 20-post since the starting gate has been used. It also is the third Kentucky Derby win for jockey Kent Desormeaux who
previously captured the race in 1998 with Real Quiet and with Fusaichi Pegasus two years later.

However, tragedy struck the Kentucky Derby when second-place finisher Eight Belles, the lone filly in the race, broke down shortly after crossing the wire. The three-year-old suffered fractures to both of her front ankles and was euthanized on the track.

Eight Belles' death was not a horse racing fluke. Two years ago Barbaro shattered bones at the Preakness and began the long and futile rehabilitation process that ultimately ended in an early death.

Big Brown returned $6.80, $5.00 and $4.80. Eight Belles paid $10.60 and 6.40, and Denis of Cork paid $11.60 to show.

2007 Kentucky Derby 133 Horse and Jockey Results

Street Sense, the 9-2 favorite, rallied from 19th under jockey Calvin Borel to pass the pacesetting Hard Spun in the stretch and draw away to a 2 ¼-length victory in the 133rd running of the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs.

Congratulations to Kentucky Derby 132 Winner Barbaro!

Barbaro, courageous winner of Kentucky Derby 132, was euthanized Jan. 29 after experiencing additional health complications related to the injuries he suffered in the Preakness Stakes on May 20, 2006.

Lael Stable’s Barbaro swept to the lead at the top of stretch and drew away for one of the more impressive wins in Kentucky Derby history as he powered to a 6 ½-length victory over WinStar Farm’s Bluegrass Cat in the 132nd “Run for the Roses” at Churchill Downs.

Barbaro scored his victory in the $2 million Kentucky Derby presented by Yum! Brands before a crowd of 157,536, the second largest attendance figure in the history of the race. Jockey Edgar Prado, who won his first Kentucky Derby victory in seven tries, said that he had smooth sailing after Barbaro made a slight misstep at the start.

“He stumbled a little bit coming out of the gate but he recovered right away,” said Prado. “You see what he did when I turned him loose, he took off like a rocket. I never had a doubt in this horse. Mr. Matz did a super job. Hopefully we can get the Triple Crown.”

The 3-year-old son of Dynaformer became only the sixth unbeaten horse in 132 years to win the Kentucky Derby as he covered the 1 ¼-miles over a “fast” track in 2:01.36 and paid $14.20, $8.00 and $6.00. The winning margin was the fifth largest in Derby history and the largest since Assault scored a 6-length win in 1946.

2005 Kentucky Derby Winner & Payouts

Giacomo pulls a shocker in the 131st Kentucky Derby, rallying on the far outside under jockey Mike Smith to outfinish fellow longshot Closing Argument and Afleet Alex, hitting the wire in 2:02.75. The win by Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Moss' Giacomo produced the second largest win payoff in Kentucky Derby history, returning a generous $102.60.
